Work Description

Kari Souders is best known for her ritualistic physical and structural approach to artwork that interweaves texture, form, line and color. Her process involves mapping, exploring organic constraints and seeking the possibilities in continuous systems. “I see my work as maps of the mind, the mind's inner landscape in which I interweave my conscious and unconscious regions.” The surfaces of her paintings are intensely worked until they appear both destructive and regenerative. Unearthing the painting's hidden layers allows actual interaction between the inside and outside of the painting. “My paintings expose my mental geography where through the imbrication of textures and movement I can interweave the topography of the brain and the outside world.”
